Family at the Harline Cabin Up Lambs Canyon

Many fond memories of this place.
Here's one for Mother's Day: Brenda was almost born here at the cabin (Lambs' Canyon) in 1973. We were up there with Lola and some of her kids for the week. Her daugter had driven their car back to Ogden for a day or two. David was taking summer classes at the University of Utah and he was commuting back and forth. He was tired and was thinking about just driving home and coming up the next day but instead drove up to the cabin. There was no phone coverage in the canyon. That was one of the things that Grandpa Oscar Harline had liked most about it.
Many of us were sleeping up in the loft. When I woke up my water broke! I remember Joe riding with us to the locked gate to let us out. He was 15 and kept his cool. He unlocked the gate and ran about a mile back to the cabin. Lola kept Glen and Jeannette with her, I was really terrified because our due date was August 20 and this was the 29th of June. With her being two months early I was so worried that something was terribly wrong!!!

We headed for home to get our things. Only problem was we had to drive to Ogden to our doctor as we had recently moved to our new home on 3145 West in West Valley. In retrospect, we should've headed straight to the hospital. I quickly showered, gathered my things and we were on our way. That is the longest drive I have EVER been on. About Lagoon, I was having very strong contractions. I didn't know if the baby was going to wait or not! David was driving as FAST as he could in a Volkswagon Beetle and then a little more! We arrived at the MacKay Dee hospital on Harrison across from Weber State College and Brenda was born within minutes of our arrival at 9:04 am by Dr. M.A.Godfrey
Turned out she was full term! She weighed 7 pounds plus a little and was 21 inches long. This was back before ultra sounds and all the other stuff that monitor babies growth. I had been nursing Jeannette and so didn't have a reliable date of conception to go by. I must not have had much morning sickness to be off by two months. It had caught us so much by surprise that we didn't have a name picked out for her so she has two birth certificates. After we got back home, we decided to name her after a favorite Child Development Teacher at Weber State College, Brenda Zunfening.
I never pass Lagoon but what I count our blessing to have been able to deliver a beautiful perfect baby girl in the hospital with no complications. In the end, it was nice to not go through a hot summer being pregnant. We were glad to have her here: happy, safe and healthy!!! Brenda was definitely our most surprising delivery of all five of our children! She's our marvelous middle child!

This was a treasured summer get-away for the Harline Family
